COURSE AGENDA

  • Collect air samples for dusts, fumes, mists, gases and vapors.
  • Monitor employee exposure to, and point sources of, noise.
  • Apply occupational exposure limits (OEL), such as the ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) and the OSHA standards (PELs), to the results of the sampling.
  • Calibrate the flow rate through sample media.
  • Develop a sampling strategy based on the severity of exposure.
  • Recognize industrial hygiene hazards.
  • Measure air flow in ventilation systems.
  • Understand the selection, use, maintenance and fit testing of respirators.
  • Measure air contaminants for confined space entry.

Thomas Knupp, CIH
Bureau Veritas, Senior Project Manager

Mr. Knupp has more than 31 years of experience in occupational and environmental health and safety in the rubber and chemical industries. His areas of specialization include comprehensive plant health and safety audits, air sampling for chemical hazards, noise and radiation monitoring and evaluations, respiratory protection and fit testing, hazard communication, employee training and education, ergonomic evaluations, and hazardous waste operations.

Mr. Knupp has been certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene for more than 26 years. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Akron Council of Engineering and Scientific Societies and the Leadership Award from the Northeastern Ohio Local Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. He has taught extensively on various health and safety topics at the university level and for private industry.
